Q&A: Any advise about house training a recently rescued dog?
Question by Midnight: Any advise about house training a recently rescued dog?
We rescued a dog about a week and a half ago and are having trouble training the dog to go outside. She is 1 1/2 year old boxer mix. She has messed in several different places in the house sometimes twice a day. She has also had loose stools. We gave her Tripe mixed with her food for a few days, but that didn’t help. We are back to dry food (last 24 hours) bust are still having a problem. Any advise?

are there any supersonic dog training devices that work from more than 20 feet away?
Question by jamers: are there any supersonic dog training devices that work from more than 20 feet away?
If so send a link. If you dont know, dont waste my time and dont answer.

I’ve never heard of a supersonic (faster than sound) dog trainer, but there are ultra sonic (high frequency) anti-barking devices.
Google “super bark free” for a device which works at 50-60 feet, suitable for an annoying neighbor’s dog. It comes with a 60 day free trial.
I’d usually get the asker a link to the product, but your comment was kind of a turn off for me and I don’t want to waste my time either.

Yes, I think you should take some classes. Perhaps you can take one or both of your parents with you to “observe” either a show or a class. Then you can discuss how the classes might help your dog’s performance. (or your performance as a handler)
If money is the issue, perhaps you can offer a way to earn some extra cash and help them pay for the classes.
Good luck!

I’m looking for obedience for my two labs as I’m just about exhausted with them and myself. They never listen, and I have to put a choker on them for walks. Any suggestions are helpful and welcome.

Q&A: Can a dog be trained for both search/rescue training and cadaver location?
Question by radiant_innerlight: Can a dog be trained for both search/rescue training and cadaver location?
We have very limited search and rescue dog resources in my area and I was wondering if a tracking dog has to be trained in either live scent tracking or cadaver tracking. Ideally I would like, if possible, to train my dog for both.

Question by Joe B: can any training facility legally train a service dog? i am looking for legal documents to support the answer.
i am looking to find out if any training facility can legally train my dog to be a service dog. i have been trying to read through some of the ADA’s documents on the training of service dogs but have not found anything that specificially states that service dogs can be trained by any facility. i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and if they could point me to the correct documents to help me solve my issue. Thanks!

Any facility can train a service dog, if they have a certified trainer for that type of training. It really depends on the trainer’s credentials, and not the facility itself.

If you are close to Kansas, Concordia has CARES which is a wonderful place to get a service dog and Washington has KSDS who specializes in dogs for the blind, but does other service dogs too.

Could someone help me with a little dog training?
Question by Tori: Could someone help me with a little dog training?
I just got a male golden retriever puppy named hunter about a month ago. He’s about 3 months now. Everyday when i get home and let him out of his outside pin, he is so excited to see me, he starts to pee all over my feet. What should i do to make this stop? Maybe some kind of training to help break him of his habit?

Don’t make a big deal over you coming home and seeing him. When you go to get him out of his crate, don’t say anything to him. Put on his leash and walk him directly outside. You can also wait a few minutes to let him out of his crate until he calms down. The good news is most puppies grow out of the excitable peeing stage.
