Question by : Prison inmate dog training program facts needed?
I am trying to find the number of inmate programs there are in the country (or at least an estimate) versus the amount of total prisons in the country. It’s very hard to find information online. There are so many different inmate programs that it makes it very hard to get generalized statistics, facts and information. If anyone knows any good sights with information on dog inmate programs as a whole instead of specific ones please let me know!

Question by GucciGirl: How would you go about training a hunting dog?
My father in laws has several Pits and Dogo Argentinos that he uses as boar hunting dogs.. they track the boar and then subdue/hold it until the hunter can get to it. How would you train a dog to learn these skills? Is there taining aids that you would use or would you need a professional trainer/hunting trainer of some sort to help you?

Let it see by example,, let it hunt with a trained dog…it will pick up the right behavior

Mine would probably be Cesar Millan’s first book, Cesar’s Way. I also think How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With is very helpful in raising puppies. How ’bout you?

Question by : What are some methods of training your dog not to bark at the door or at other dogs or people?
I have a 3 year old dog and I have tried many obedience schools and none of them have worked. I would miss him too much to send him away to have him trained, so do you have any methods I could try at home??? Thanks

Let him bark a few times, then tell him, “Okay, that’s enough. Good boy.” Many dogs relax once they grasp that you have acknowledged the alarm they are sounding. Talk to your dog; explain it to him. They understand more than we think.

I let my dog off his leash in front of my house. The driveway has a fenced and he managed to slip right under and ran into the streets and other peoples back yard. I have called him calmly but to no avail. I finally got a hold of him when he began to pee by a tree. How can i train him from running away and coming to me when i call his name?

There are many different ways. One way is a metal slip chain, however there is a right way and a wrong way to use them. They should not be used to choke your dog. They are used to pop their neck. It knocks them off balance and the metal on metal sound right by their ear gets their attention. You shouldn’t use this unless you have been trained how to use them. You can also install the underground fences that sends a signal to a shock collar. This will allow the dog to learn his boundries.

Six. Once a week. And it’s fun. It’s not so much about what great tricks your dog will learn. It’s about socializing him and learning the very basics. It was a lot of fun. I had never used Petco before. As I thought we were done with dogs. But, Husband brought this dumb stray puppy home from work and one thing led to another and I was like “Oh Shit” I have a dog. LOL It was a family thing. Me, Husband and the three kids all went to the class with this puppy. It was a lot of fun. Now we have to outgrow this puppy. Sigh. Kids are going off to college, getting married, moving out and I know none of them are taking the dog. Sigh. It never ends. There was a light at the end. Old dog, old cat, grown kids…freedom. Nope. The puppy ends it all. Oh well. LOL

You need to call up your local kennel club and sign up for some of their classes. You can’t learn squat from a book/video. You needs hands=on instruction.

Question by H-Man: Dog Training Pay as a Career and College?
I know it depends on what type of training you do as a trainer put what it a person looking at as a figure a year or hour. Also is there any colleges that give courses for dog training in general?

Maybe some of the same courses a verteranarian would take. Then if a dog misbehaves you could tell if it was sick or just in a bad mood.

Question by DaBoomvang: Training a dog to do magic tricks?
I want to use my dog in a show where he has to perform a magic trick.

He already is an “acting dog” so he is easy and willing to be trained.

I dont know any magic tricks though – does anyone have any suggestions?
