How to Teach The Basics of ‘Treibball’ or ‘Push Ball’: A Great New Game for Energetic Dogs!

‘Treibball’, ‘Herding Ball’ or “Push Ball”, is a new sport from Germany that is a lot of fun for both handler and dog. The equipment needs are minimal and dogs of any size can be trained to play. In this video, Jessie & Lucy introduce you to the basic skills needed to play. It’s a great rainy day activity to burn mental and physical energy! Ball should be your dog’s shoulder to head height, and Yoga balls work well. If your dog keeps popping the ball, try a hard plastic ‘pig ball’ or horse “Jolly” type ball. If you want to work on the more advanced skills, instead of where I use the ‘wait’, practice sending the dog to a mat or foot target behind the ball, teaching directionals (left, right) and ball selection. Enjoy! Link to video of dog playing the Treibball game: www.youtube.com Treibball rules: www.associatedcontent.com Want to ask questions? Check out this discussion group: pets.groups.yahoo.com

Dog kisses bunny
Note: Dottie, the red heeler kissing the bunny in the video, went missing from our fenced yard on Sep. 23, 2011. Please check out bringdottiehome.com for more information and help me find my girl! She is almost 12 and is now blind. Have questions about rabbits? Go to http Here is my precious Weber (Feb. 10, 2002 – December 20, 2006) in healthier times. He is playing with his terrier, Digit (the spastic one… I think he’s part beagle and part Jack Russell) and DotCOM (she also answers to Dottie, she is a Red Heeler). All three animals were adopted. Digit showed up at my house in 1998. In 2000, I adopted Dottie from the pound and in 2002, I got Weber from the same pound, after Easter. He took to litter training in days and Dottie immediately fell in love with him. Digit learned to play with him instead of trying to hunt him. Digit and Dottie had docked tails when I adopted them. Don’t ask me why anyone would dock the tail of a mixed breed dog, or why they would do so when it’s not part of the breed standard (as is the case w/ a Boxer or Doberman). Even though I wouldn’t have chosen to dock their tails, it was pretty adorable to see both dogs and the bunny laying down, lined up together, with similarly-shaped rear ends! Weber died after surgery to treat a dental abscess on 12/20/2006. He was 4 and a half years old. Happy indoor rabbits that are fed a proper diet can live into their teens. Weber was the first rabbit I ever had – he was perfect. Rabbits can make great pets …
www.woofd2.com The Washington Owners of Flying Disc Dogs — WOOFD2 — demonstrate freestyle canine disc skills. (Sorry if you’ve already viewed this. I had to change the music to something I had rights to use. This was originally downloaded with audioswap background music and entitled, “Disc Dog Clips May 2009.”) If you try the tricks shown in this video, be careful not to hurt your back during “back stalls” and be careful not to hurt your dog is you “vault” your dog off your back. Always play on a well maintained, grass surface.

Dog Aggressive for Toenail Trim | drsophiayin.com
www.drsophiayin.com bring you an example of how to train a dog to enjoy having his toenails trimmed. This dog hates having its toenails trimmed. Once we demonstrate that he dislikes having his toenails trimmed, our goal is to fix the behavior while no longer eliciting any more aggression. That is, we are using counterconditioning (which changes his emotional state from fearful or angry to happy because he’s thinking about food) and desensitization (starting with the stimulus small and gradually increasing the intensity with a goal of never getting an aggressive response). In a hospital situation you would place a muzzle on this dog for safety; however, you might have to train him to like having a muzzle first! For this video we elect to not use a muzzle because we are pretty confident we can do this without eliciting any aggression, and so that you can better see his facial expression. Using DS and CC we are able to trim all nails in a much shorter time than it would take if we tried to muzzle him and had 2-3 people holding him down. Now the owner can practice at home and with each visit the dog will get better. Eventually the dog won’t need treats during the procedure. How long will that take? If the owner were to practice every day it might only take several days to a week. It depends on the owner’s technique and how bad the dog’s experiences have been in the past. If having problems weaning off food, then you’ll need to see the additional steps in the Low Stress …
