Question by : How do you use the squirt bottle for training when the dog barks?
When the dog start barking non-stop, is it ok to use the spray bottle/squirt bottle? ANd how do you use it, do you spray it at the dog’s face or where? And is there any other training method that is fast and effective? And do spray collars (no-bark collars) and muzzles (for no barking) work?

all you have to do is spray the dog and then look away you don’t want your dog mixing up you and the water

just dont get it in the dogs ears
you gotta make sure the dog knows he shouldnt bark so sit with him a while and when he does spray at him try not to use the streamline setting on the bottle try to use a spray/mist setting close up
With all this effort you’ve put into asking questions on how to take the lazy way out, you could have been working on training with your dog. Simple obedience training and adequate exercise and attention will do wonders to keep your dog from barking excessively.
I don’t use it, but I know people who do. When their dogs bark they spray them once in the face and say “no bark!” eventually they will get the idea…and when you say “no bark” they wont bark.
I wouldn’t suggest any collar that does anything because then your dog would become scared of the collar. Instead, I would say do some classic training with your dog to teach it not to bark. Here’s a website to get you started:

Good luck!!!!!!
Squirt bottles, bark collars and muzzles are wasteful and cruel. If you want to train your dog to stop barking then you need to follow these:
1. EXERCISE. Triple the exercise he’s getting now.
2. HEALTHY FOOD. Switch to a healthy food without corn.
3. TRAINING. Praise and reward the dog when he is not barking. If he continues to bark nonstop then you say “no” once and put him in time out. That should be the only punishment.
It’s not a surprise that after all the answers you got telling you to just exercise and train, and one said squirt with water, that you want to use a squirt bottle…so typical.
Why is he barking? Is he getting walks and exercise daily or is he stuck out back? Bored dogs will bark.
There is not quick fix for a behavioral problem. My suggestion, buy a well fitting prong collar stick him on a leash and use NO with a quick snap and release of the collar. Keep in mind you will always have your voice with you but not a spray bottle..
The no bark spray collars are useless and a basket muzzle still allow the dog to bark
Why not use positive reinforcement methods? The methods you want to use are what people think are “quick fixes”. Your dog will not understand why you are squirting him and will only make a bad association with you. You need to train him in a way that will keep his trust and respect towards you, not fear you once you come around or he sees a squirt bottle.
You could try clicker training, my favorite positive reinforcement method. You can look more into it on clickertraining.com,
This is what I would recommend you to do:
First create a sound, either a kissy noise or even a whistle, something preferably your dog has never heard before, or knows is a good noise, that love comes after the kissy for example. then every time do that noise to him randomly and praise and lavishly reward. you want him to associate that sound with something AWESOME coming..just use something that really motivates him. the just practice. when ever he even looks at you or comes to you and leaves everything when you make that noise, then click and treat with whatever you chose to do. start out small..with very little distractions. for example when he is sitting or doing nothing, then do the noises and stuff, and treat. then start with bigger distractions, like if he is chewing a toy. you want to gradually build up with small distraction to big distractions to get him to come to you.
once this is done and he gets the idea of that sound, you will use it as a positive interrupter. when you hear him bark. when you hear him bark, make the kissy noise or whatever, and the minute he LOOKS or EVEN comes praise and treat double as you did in the beginning. if he fails, go back a step to a smaller distraction. make sure if he succeeds that you click the minute he looks or comes to you. you can learn about timing on clickertraining.com.
this is a steady process, but one that you can positively overcome. once he comes everytime you call him with that positive interrupter, you can begin to add a cue, such as no bark..so after he looks at you and stops barking, you can say no bark.
i hope you see and understand what I am trying to come across with positive reinforcement training.
if you have any questions feel free to email me. I am willing to help.
It is more effective that you give your dog personal basic training rather than using a squirt bottle to teach him not to bark. Basic training will teach him to be obedient and learn to understand your orders and house rules, this will also make him learn that following your orders is the best way to please their owners – which is what dogs want to give to their owner.
I recommend that you watch my 2 minute dog training video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AnM7AokdSI it can give you important tips that you must keep in mind as you train your dog not to bark and other important house rules you need him to learn. have fun with the training!
Re: How I Got My Neighbor’s Dog To Stop Barking!
I recently had a really bad situation involving my neighbor’s dogs and their barking. I work at night and sleep during the day when people usually don’t pay attention to their barking dogs.
I asked my neighbors to quiet their dogs down and they agreed. The dogs are still barking at about the same rate so I am sure that they did not take me seriously.
After weeks of not being able to sleep, I decided to check the internet and found a lot of people that recommended “The Barking Dog CD”.
To make a long story short, I popped the CD into my CD player and the dogs stopped barking almost immediately. As on person stated “I almost fell out of my chair when the dogs stopped barking”. I totally agree with them. It worked like a charm. The website is at http://www.antibarkingdevice.com if you are interested.
This method should also work on your own dog if you are having problems with your dog. I certainly hope that I was helpful to you.
