Q&A: how do you know if your dog is suitable for protection training?

Question by : how do you know if your dog is suitable for protection training?
i have a french mastiff x american bulldog he very socialized and knows basic commands. How can you tell if your dog is right for protection training and is there any way to train your dog yourself without using an expensive trainer especially since the economy is tough right now.
Where can i find a pp trainer in monterey county, CA and thank you for your guys answers i appriciate them.

I cannot answer your question because I honestly don’t know when he’ll be ready, and I have no knowledge of this stuff.

But I can and will say this: You shouldn’t rely on your dog for full protection. Yes, he is a big dog, but when something happens you’ll never know how he’ll react, even with training. He also may deter strangers looking to harm you, but he probably will not deter people who are set on harming you. If you are worried about things like that, it’s best to carry protection on yourself and rely on yourself.

Sorry for not being a big help, but I hope you have a good holiday!

By having the dog evaluated by a PPD trainer, which costs money. NO you can’t train your dog yourself if you don’t even know how to determine if your dog has the right temperament and drive. The fact is if you can’t/won’t pay for proper training then you need to find another hobby to train your dog in because by yourself then all you will have is a walking lawsuit waiting to happen.

you have to have the dog evaluated by an experienced pp trainer. you cant do it yourself, thats the way to make a dog dangerous and unreliable.

you really shouldn’t try PP training on your own, it could turn out really bad specially with a strong breed like this. seek professional help. As you could end up paying huge medical bills and even jail if your dog turned on someone because of wrong training methods.
    it is not worth it.

when you do find a trainer make sure it’s a reputable trainer.
