I know you can train your small dog to use a litter box. I would normally take the dog out to go but if I need to run to the store for an hour I don’t want the dog to go on the floor.
I was just wondering if once you teach your dog to use the litter box can you still take them outside. Or does it have to be one or the other?

i would stick with only outside if he is a puppy then he may go on the floor but most of the time if you take them out right before you leave an hour isnt very long and you should be fine.you dont want him to get used to littler box because then he may not want to go outside as often.

That’s why you outright housebreak the dog.
It will learn that going in the house is bad – and it WON’T do it.
By putting a litter box in there and praising him for using it, you’re telling him that it IS okay to go in the house.
Useless.
From my experience, once they are litter trained you can take them out but usually wont go outside.
If you take your dog out before you leave to go someplace it should be fine for an hour or so. If you are still afraid you can keep the dog in the kitchen with a gate so that if there is an accident it wont be on the rug. Good Luck
Crate train your dog so he does not go in the house. Teach him to go outside.
If you ask me a dog using a litter box is nasty if your gone to the store for an hour i think that the dog can hold it that long my little yorkie puppy i can leave her out for about four hours without a accadent and she is 3 pounds 6 months old if she can so that all dogs can do that using a litter box for a dog is nasty and for lazy people if you are afraid of the dog makeing a mess while youre gone then kennel them dogs do not like to make messes in places they sleep so buy a kenel and train your dog I have 3 other dogs i can leave them out for about 8 – 9 hours and no mess so kennel train your dog.
