Question by sunluciano3030: How do i go about training my dog who just turned one years old from running away from me?
I let my dog off his leash in front of my house. The driveway has a fenced and he managed to slip right under and ran into the streets and other peoples back yard. I have called him calmly but to no avail. I finally got a hold of him when he began to pee by a tree. How can i train him from running away and coming to me when i call his name?

There are many different ways. One way is a metal slip chain, however there is a right way and a wrong way to use them. They should not be used to choke your dog. They are used to pop their neck. It knocks them off balance and the metal on metal sound right by their ear gets their attention. You shouldn’t use this unless you have been trained how to use them. You can also install the underground fences that sends a signal to a shock collar. This will allow the dog to learn his boundries.

Six. Once a week. And it’s fun. It’s not so much about what great tricks your dog will learn. It’s about socializing him and learning the very basics. It was a lot of fun. I had never used Petco before. As I thought we were done with dogs. But, Husband brought this dumb stray puppy home from work and one thing led to another and I was like “Oh Shit” I have a dog. LOL It was a family thing. Me, Husband and the three kids all went to the class with this puppy. It was a lot of fun. Now we have to outgrow this puppy. Sigh. Kids are going off to college, getting married, moving out and I know none of them are taking the dog. Sigh. It never ends. There was a light at the end. Old dog, old cat, grown kids…freedom. Nope. The puppy ends it all. Oh well. LOL

I want to use my dog in a show where he has to perform a magic trick.

He already is an “acting dog” so he is easy and willing to be trained.

I dont know any magic tricks though – does anyone have any suggestions?

Dogs usually enjoy the attention they get during agility training… it is in itself “fun”. They enjoy the attention and praising they get. Do you use treats? Do you praise your dog after each command is met? Are you enthusiastic while training your dog? They can sense how you feel too.

I am looking for a good basic dog traning DVD for my year old rescue dog. Mainly around recal, walking to heel and not jumping up. Any ideas?

There is a trainer named Richard Wolters. He wrote a few books such as “Water Dog” “Gun Dog” and “Family Dog”. A few of these books have been updated and placed on DVDs. I highly highly suggest Richard Wolters. He has a wonderful way of training and if you are into reading he is a wonderful author that will have you laughing and possibly crying while learning how to properly train your new best friend. You can find most of his stuff in out doors stores.

Question by Four Eye Star: What are the commands to use when training a dog?
There was an advertisement on how to train your dog on tv. I really do not want to spend that much money on DVDs. I just want to know how to train my dog, she is shepherd. She been chewing the doors, wooden fences, and jumping over anyone. She is a good dog, it’s just her chewing habits is not what we want. I provided some chewing toys but those get ruined in a few days and the fake bones, disappears.

Get a leash and have her drag it around all day. When she starts to chew on something, snap the leash and say ”leave it!”. She will eventually learn.

ok so my dog is a siberian husky and rot mix along with some really small dog, she is 6 weeks old and i want to start training her to sit and lay down, how do i do that? also she is always whimpering how do i make her stop that?

hold what ever she likes in front of her sweep your hand down her back slightly pushing her in a sit position saying sit when you have her in the sit position give her the treat.

Once she has mastered sit Hold her bottom in the sit position and put the treat on the ground in front sliding forward saying lay or down till she stretches out to a lay position give her the treat.

Its all about guiding and patience. working on it about 10 mins at a time you do not want her to get bored and stop listening all together.

For older dogs because we rescued a dog that wants to attack other but if you cant find a web then a dog trainer

If you have an aggressive dog, then a video isn’t best. A professional dog trainer is what you need. Helping a dog with behavior problems are difficult, and can’t be done by watching a video. Especially with an aggressive dog, this can be dangerous. You need to find someone that knows what they’re doing. Otherwise, the dog could end up being worse off then he already is.
